Rated 1 out of 5 by from We purchased this doorbell chime and had to replace it and the replacement shorted out too. We purchased this doorbell chime less than a year ago and paid a licensed electrician to install it. It shorted out after a couple of months and we had the electrician come back. He said it was not our wiring and the doorbell was faulty. We returned it to the store where we purchased it and they ordered a replacement. We paid the electrician again to install it. This week it shorted out. The electrician came out and checked the wiring again and the transformer and said that is fine, so now we have a second one that is faulty. We will be going back the the store again with this replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! I bought this chime for our restored Victorian and loved it. Painted the box to match the trim. I would like to buy this same chime with silver colored pipes and a woodsy modern mission style box. I will have to have a box made to match house decor. I'm still trying to find out if I can get it with the silver colored pipes.

  • In the fine print, it states this model needs additional wire from transformer to chime.

What is this wire for and will it operate without the additional wire?
    Asked by: Joey
Thank you for your question on the model LA70MA door chime. The LA70MA needs a minimum of three wires for a single door installation and four wires for a two door installation. The additional wire is to power the chime at all times (not just when the button is pushed). You cannot install this chime without the additional wiring.

extra terminal on existing LC -38

I have an extra terminal labeled EXT FRONT with wires attached. The LA70MA does not have this terminal. Can you please tell me what the EXT FRONT terminal was used for and how to now wire the new LA70MA.
    Asked by: Ken
Thank you for your question on the model LC38 wired door chime. The “EXT FRONT” terminal on the LC38 was there for the option of wiring a second door chime to it. If you were not wiring a second chime to the LC38, you did not use it. The LA70MA does not have this option. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 888-336-6151 if you need further assistance.

HAW DO I CLEAN THE PLUNGERS, WHAT SOLUTION IS NEEDED?

I HAVE AN OLD MODEL, LA-59, IS PARTS AVAILABLE?
    Asked by: BIGAL
Thank you for your question regarding the LA59 door chime. Unfortunately there are no parts available for this unit any longer. To clean the plungers, remove the unit from the wall. On the back of the unit there are 4 caps for the plunger/solenoid assemblies. Remove the cap to remove the plunger and spring assembly. Use rubbing alcohol to clean the plungers, springs and solenoids. Allow to air dry before reinstalling into the unit. If you need any further assistance, please contact Technical Support at 1-888-336-6151.

can I purchase a shorter chime tube.

I have the long chime tubes on my door bell and the kids keep knocking them off.
    Asked by: RAY
Thank you for your question on door chimes. The only possible parts available for your chime would be the original replacement parts. There would not be any shorter tubes available for it.

What is the voltage requirement for my door chime?

My model has tone bars with plungers. No voltage specs printed on unit. There are characters stamped into the base. They are: NuTone L22 K65G
    Asked by: Bruce
Thank you for your question on the model L22 wired door chime. The L22 required a 16 volt AC transformer rated for at least 10 VA (voltamps).
