Rated 1 out of 5 by 0 for 3 with this unit This model came as the standard option when I had my modular come constructed. It is in all 3 of my bathrooms. 2 have completely seized up after a grinding noise began and progressively worsened. The third has started making the grinding noise and now only work intermittently. It is only a matter of time before it seizes up too. November 16, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Very High Fan Failure Rate I've had to replace the fan-motor assembly at least 5 times within 10 years. The duty cycle at my home is low, it is just me and my wife. The squirrel cage fan slides down the motor shaft over time. That is the mode of failure. The fan-motor assembly needs to be re-designed to stop this frequent failure. I keep spare parts it happens so much. I'm off to Home Depot to buy a new fan to get a new fan-motor assembly. I keep 2 in stock at home. Do not install this model. The fan-motor assembly will fail very quickly, and it is a easy, but VERY expensive repair. September 12, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by average fan This is the second unit I have installed. The first only lasted about 3 years - not nearly enough for a $100 + investment. This new unit is about 1 yr old and already beginning to make off motor noises again so I am not hopeful it will last long. The light it gives off is very good but the motor and air movement is less than desired. Noise level, when working properly, is pretty quiet. September 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by works good not made correctly had a noise/vibration took it a part a couple times had to realign the mounting holes, my husband place a screw between the motor cover and the housing and it stopped the vibration, its a good product for the money this is the second one I have had in the past 20 years had my bathroom redone and contractor suggested putting a new one in that was in 2000 replace this one short time ago and it made noise after a short period of time nutone replace motor assm. under warranty September 5, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor Product Poor ventilation properties, very noisy. Had HVAC Contractor look at, said installation was ok, just a poorly designed unit. September 5, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by 8663rp fan the fan 8663rd works very well .I placed this fan on a timer switch and you don't have to worry about forgetting to turn it off ' this 8663rp fan has surpassed our expectations for looks and functionality......thank's for a great product September 5, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Does exactly what I wanted The exhaust fan and light is mounted in existing opening in tile soffit over bath. It does a better job than old unit did, though perhaps a bit noisy. This was expected, however and is not a problem. Clears humidity quickly. September 4, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not the quality and preformance of what they used to be. The construction of the fans housing assemblies, are flimsy, and thin. Which lead to constant vibration. I have also had to replace the fans (made in China) due to noise, and even the replacements are loud. They aren't made to last more then a few years, and I am one to take preventive maintenance by vacuuming, and cleaning the fans at least twice a year. No to mention constantly blowing light bulbs from the amount of vibration from the fan. Changing to a different model, of course requires the ceiling to be re-plastered. September 4, 2014

I cannot insert the clips into the slots because the slots are nearly to the very edge of the area covered by the grill, which is well beyond the square hole that I cut in my drywall to accommodate the housing.

If I was supposed to cut a circular hole into the drywall, the instructions did not say so, nor would this be a smart design. The hole required should not be anything beyond the area needed to insert the housing.

What was your intent as to how this should be installed, and do you recommend? Is there a video tutorial specifically for THIS model, the 8663RP?

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 8663RP exhaust fan/light/night light. The 8663RP does require a round hole and the bottom edge of the round part of the housing would be flush with the finished side of the ceiling. If you would check the installation instructions on page 3, about ½ the way down the page, it states “Place fan housing on top of ceiling surface and use the housing as a template to mark area to be cut out. Cut round hole 13-1⁄8” in diameter for rough opening.”

How to install the Grille/Lens assembly for Model 8663RP

     on 8663RP
I am having problems installing the grille assembly--instructions say "...insert springs into slots on both sides of housing", but these slots are not identified on the instruction diagrams. Are the slots referred to up those on 2 opposing vertical sides of the recessed portion of the housing or are the slots referred to on each side of the flat round piece that sits flush against the ceiling. If the former--they springs do not fit past the reflector assembly. If the latter the slots are too far apart to use four slots for each end of the springs

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 8663RP exhaust fan/light/night light. The grille springs go into the slots in the round part of the unit housing. Please remember that the unit needs a round hole cut into the ceiling, not a square one. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 888-336-6151 for further assistance.

Thank you for your question on the model 8663 exhaust fan/light/night light. I’m sorry but the grille on your unit is no longer available and the new grille will not properly install on your unit housing. You will need to completely remove the 8663 from the ceiling and install a new unit.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 8663RP exhaust fan/light/night light. After removing the grille assembly, you need to remove the reflector assembly. The motor mounting bracket will come out of the unit housing after removing one screw. You can check out the installation instructions on our web site or contact the Technical Service Department at 888-336-6151 for further assistance.

Thank you for your question on the model 8663 exhaust fan/light. There have been numerous versions of the 8663, each with different suffixes after the 8663. Please get the complete model number off of the unit and contact the Technical Service Department at 888-336-6151 for assistance.
