Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice clean look I installed the Nutone BK140L in a new home. It installed easily and functioned well. I thought it worked well that the transformer was in the box rather than at the panel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nutone Door Chime Easy to install. Simple and clean. This door chime was extremely easy to install and works well. The chime is loud enough for a mid size home. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to install We used this door chime to replace an exact model that stopped working. Installing this model was fairly easy, because " ...the transformer is installed in a single gang junction box and the chime mechanism simply attaches to the metal plate." So far the door chime is working fine. For the price it was not a bad purchase. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from doorbell failed working This model was installed by our builder and the other 230 homes in our neighborhood. I noticed so many of the lights on the buttons have gone out around the neighborhood and they all complained it stopped working. I thought I had dodged the bullet, but sure enough our light went out too and the button has stopped working. Seeing all the reviews this seems like a pervasive issue with his model. I am surprised a name like NuTone would put a product out like this. I am left with a broken doorbell, out of home warrant, and no clue how to fix it. I already ordered and replaced the button but that was not the issue.n

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This bell was installed by the builder and does not work. The bell came with the new home and was installed by the builder. It has not lasted even 2 years and stopped working. The push button does not light any more and the door bell does not work. Tried checking all contacts but it didnot help. Very frustrating that a simple thing like a door bell cannot be made a company like NuTone.

  • Can i buy just the lighted button

Thank you for your question on the model BK140LWH wired door chime. You can use any push button in our line to work with the BK140LWH. The button that would have come with the LA140LWH would be the PB7LWH and you can use the “Dealer Locator” link at the top of our web site page to find distributors in your area that may carry it.

How do I adjust the volume on this door bell, I can barely hear it.
    Asked by: Reina
Thank you for your question. The BK140 series utilizes a "built-in" transformer, which is mounted and located in a junction box, behind the chime. This built-in transformer is rated at 10 VA or watts, in power. There is no volume control on the 2-note chimes and the only way to increase the volume, would be to replace the transformer with a transformer of higher wattage. Unfortunately, this would require rewiring, as the replacement transformer would need to be remotely mounted from the chime unit. For further information and explanation, please contact the NuTone Technical Support group at 888-336-6151.

Do you have different chime mechanisms that can replace the one that came with this kit without replacing transformer or case?

    Asked by: Don
Thank you for your question regarding the BK140LWH door chime kit. Nutone offers many chimes that will work with your existing transformer. However, if you choose to replace the chime with a different version, you will have to replace the entire receiver (case), and not just the chime mechanisms inside the receiver.

Recently the chime unit started to make a loud, buzzing sound when the switch was pressed. I bought a brand new unit and replaced it thinking the leaky (hot) transformer in the chime was the culprit. I am getting the same problem with the new unit. So, what else could be wrong? I still have the new transformer that goes with the switch. Is that the faulty part?
    Asked by: Kannan
Thank you for your question on the model BK140LWH wired door chime. If the chime is making a constant buzzing sound, you have a stuck push button at the door. You will need to replace the push button. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 888-336-6151 if you need further assistance.
