Rated 4 out of 5 by from Real Physical Chimes, Clean Design Simple, modern look. Its not a tiny unit, but still kind of disappears on the wall which is what we wanted. I actually love the volume, it's loud enough to hear throughout our house (1700 Sq Ft) without sending a startling blast down your spine if you happen to be standing under it. Having actual physical chimes, the volume is of course not adjustable, so that might be a consideration for some.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Looks OK but Not Loud Enough We bought this unit so we could paint the cover to match our wall color. Great idea but the sound is not very loud. Since it is a door chime, the primary need is to hear the door chime.

  • Is this model a reproduction of the L30 chord tone door chime?

I have a 1959 NuTone L30 chord tone door chime that died. It has four tone bars (two strike at a time).. I loved the sound of it, and I want to buy the LA39WH because I saw that "unique chord tone". Does it sound the same as my L30?
    Asked by: benson41011
Sorry for the late reply, but thanks for your help. I found the sound sample for this model chime and while it does sound pleasant, it is nowhere near as full and rich sounding as my vintage L30, and it is lower pitched as well. I guess they just don't make them like they used to.

    Mechanical or Electronic?

Are the chime sounds being generated mechanically or electronically?
    Asked by: KF
Thank you for your question on the model LA39WH wired door chime. The LA39WH is a mechanical chime and has plungers that strike tone bars.

Can the face of this be painted or covered with wallpaper? Does part need to be left uncovered?

    Asked by: Allison
Thank you for your question on the model LA39WH wired door chime. The white cover can be painted or wallpapered to match your décor. If you are going to paint it, please make sure you prepare and prime the surface properly. We would recommend taking the cover to a larger paint store and get their recommendation for primer and paint.

What do I need to install a wired door bell

I have an existing door bell that I want to replace. I have only one door, but I want to hear the chime in two locations. I have a lighted push button door bell and 16v transformer. I would like the door chime to have more than 2 notes.
    Asked by: CLB
Thank you for the question on door chimes. Your current chime, the LA39WH, only has the options of a single note or double note. You could parallel a second similar type chime onto the first one, but you would need to run wires to the new location and probably get a higher wattage (30 watt) transformer. We do have chimes that would give you more than two notes, but in most cases you would need to do some additional wiring. For further information, I would suggest you contact our Technical Service Department at 888-336-6151

Is it possible to make the chime louder with a different transformer? I.e, use the C907 rather than the C905?

    Asked by: Jim B
The chime may hit just a little harder if you use a C-907. The difference may not be that easy to hear the difference.
