Rated 2 out of 5 by Face plate slips down My electrician chose and installed this fan for me in a very small bathroom. I think the fan portion works fine, but the face plate/ cover vibrates loose and falls off frequently. It hangs on metal clips, so at least it doesn't fall the whole way to the floor. I had to use removable sticky strips to hold it to the ceiling. Overall, I wouldn't purchase this again, and I'm waiting for an opportunity to replace it. February 21, 2013

    thermal cutout/fuse

Do all Nutone bath fans have a thermal cutout fuse in the motor? If so, wouldn't it be okay to run the fan 24/7?

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 8814R exhaust fan. Although all of our motors are internally, thermally protected, they are not all designed to be run 24/7. Running a motor 24/7, that is not designed to do that could shorten the life of it.

    Answer:
All Nutone fans have some type of protection, to prevent over heating and will shut the motor down, if this condition is detected. This may be a thermal fuse or other impedence protective device and it is integral to the motor.

    Quiter replacement motor?

Need to replace the 8814R - fan is very loud. Is there any quieter model that I can drop into the existing housing? It appears to be around 9x9.

    Thanks

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the 8814R. I'm sorry, but the only parts available for the 8814R, would be the original replacement parts. We would have nothing that can be installed in that housing that would be quieter. If you need to go to a quieter fan, you would need to completely remove the 8814R and replace it with a different fan.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 8814R exhaust fan. You can change out the 8814R with the Ultra series fan, but you would need to completely remove the 8814R from the ceiling and replace it with the new unit. You would also need to change the duct work from the current four inch to six inch. The equivalent Ultra series fan would be the XN110.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 8814R. If you have an original 8814 (without an “R”), there is a motor available. If you have an original 8814R, the motor is no longer made, but we do have a power unit assembly (motor mounting bracket, motor & blower wheel) that will work in your unit. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 888-336-3948 for assistance.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 8814R. A “sone” rating is a term used by the Home Ventilation Institute to indicate the noise level of a fan. One sone is approximately equivalent to a modern day refrigerator running, two sones, two refrigerators and so on. The 8814R is rated at 110 CFM and 4.0 sones.
