  • EZ80N is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice idea, not as easy to install as it could be. Purchased this for the convenience of installing from below the ceiling. While I was able to accomplish that, it was not a simple thing....Took twice as long as Nutone estimated, some due to my particular application, some due to a few things Nutone could do better. First of all, all the fasteners used are much shorter than they need to be, making installation more difficult that necessary. In particular, the screws that hold the fan in the housing are very short and the retainers both fell off. Longer screws would have cost less than 10 cents per fan and would have made the job much, much simpler. Fan is quiet, air flow could be much better.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs To Be Re-Engineered I replaced two old fans with these in my condo bathrooms. The retaining screws that go to the joists are only usable on one side where the joist is located.. The side I needed to use them on necessitated cutting the drywall to accomodate the mount. Thus, requiring ceiling repair.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from NEED TO RESESIGN THE EXHAUST FROM OVAL TO ROUND INSTALL WENT WELL, BUT THE OVAL EXHAUST NEEDS TO BE MADE ROUND FOR EASIER INSTALLING OF THE DUCTWORK. I ALSO AGREE THAT THE TWO MOUNTING SCREWS COULD BE A BIT LONGER.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very quite fan! This fan was pretty easy to install, although I did need to go into the attic to remove the old fan and loosen up the wiring to connect the new fan. The only issue I have with the fan is the coupler for the fan exhaust. Not sure why they made it oval instead of round. Most exhaust hoses are round. This made for an awkward connection when using a round hose clamp. There is really nothing preventing the hose from slipping off. Other than that, nice product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quiet and easy install Overall, easy install with good instructions. The screws are very hard to install if the holes aren't perfectly aligned. Suggest slightly longer screws. Function is great and runs very quietly. Satisfied with purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fan; very good value We replaced two 26 year old Broan fans when we remodeled both bathrooms. The new fans are so quiet. In fact, sometimes we have to check to see if they are on! They work great and look nice. Our contractor installed them, so I can't speak to the ease of installation, but he did not have any problems with the installation. Great fan for the price. Purchased at a big box home store.

  • EZ80n retrofit cutout limitation

The installation instructions state to not use this fan for a retrofit if the existing cutout is larger than 8 1/4" x 8". What is the reason for this limitation? My existing fan cutout is slightly smaller than the size of the EZ80n cutout, can't I just widen the existing cutout slightly to accept the new housing?

Can this be used on a plaster ceiling installed in 1949?

Will there be any cracking from vibration over time?
    Asked by: ScenicNH
I can't see any reason why not. Plaster is about a billion times stronger than sheetrock, so I don't think I would worry about it breaking the plaster. And it doesn't vibrate almost at all.

What is the length of the clips on the EZ80N?

More specifically what is the max opening dimensions so the clips would catch and hold the housing securely with the weight of the fan motor safely? Didn’t see any of that info in the specs.
    Asked by: Greg
I didn't measure them, but I'd say about 1/2 to 1 inch. That said, I wouldn't install it using the clips unless the hole was reasonably tight around the housing. If you have a lot of space, you could use the clips to hold it in place while using the holes to screw it to a joist.

Can this be mounted directly to a floor joist?

    Asked by: ScenicNH
Yes. It has four screw holes in the housing for mounting directly to a wood joist.

What model bathroom fan replaces my old QT-80-B and is a direct fit? I'm not concerned about the sound, just need a direct fit and lowest price.

    Asked by: Petef
Thank you for your question on the model QT80 exhaust fan. There is no direct replacement for the QT80. You will need to enlarge the hole in the ceiling a little for the new unit. If you have access from an attic or crawl space above the unit, the LPN80 would be the best choice. If you do not have access from above the EZ80N would be the best choice.
