• XN80 is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quiet but does not move much air Fan is very quiet but does not move 80cfm. I am using 6 inch duct but the mirrors are steamed over and the small room (5ft x 9ft) gets very humid. I used to have the Nutone LS80 (which is discontinued), and the LS80 did a much better job of removing the moist air. Using my old fan I never had steamed mirrors or a humidity problem. Very disappointed with this fan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet, clean and Energy Star This fan runs very, very quietly for an 80 CFM fan. I bought two; one each for two separate powder rooms. They run all the time when we have guests in the house. The fins and impeller housing are coated with what appears to be Teflon; they've been running for dozens of hours and cleaning each month is a breeze (pardon the pun) -- we just vacuum the grille, and then go outside and vacuum the louver where it vents outdoors. More importantly, the dust doesn't cluster near or around the motor, where it might burn if the motor gets too hot. We have a guest who insists on smoking in the powder room instead of outdoors -- she's old and we just deal with it. This fan deals with most of the smoke and odor straight away. That speaks volumes. I purchased this at a commercial supply house. We found that the Broan and competitors' fans offered at Big Box stores were inferior. Apparently with ventilators you indeed get what you pay for. This model, by the way, may be a bit difficult to retro-fit into an opening for a conventional bath fan without lamps. If doing a remove and replace, be prepared to remove the old fan's entire housing and start from scratch with the vent hose and a rectangular space in-between studs which is convenient to the power supply. The impeller in this fan is humongous and needs the extra room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No foggy mirrors I like this fan because it is quiet and now we don't have fogged mirrors after a shower, even during the recent sub-zero cold spell.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Undependable This fan shuts off when you need it the most, works great when there isn't any steam. The grill is a pain to install. You will save energy while it doesn't work. If you run it for more than 2 hours it will shut off on it's own, and seems to take forever to come back on, if this is a feature to the product you'll never know it if you shop and read all the info that comes with it. I don't recommend this for a bathroom, it's sensitive to moisture.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Fan The XN110 fan is an extremely efficient fan that runs so quietly that I can barely hear it. It prevents steamy mirrows and walls. It also looks attractive on the ceiling. I highly recommend it. It is well worth the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great, but not awesome for this price I'm planning to replace 3 fans (50, 80 and 110 CFMs) in the house with quieter options - this 50CFM was the first one as I assumed it would be the easiest one to replace. UNIT DESIGN The unit itself is impressive, the fan speed is controlled by CPU #and an impressive controller board# and it changes the fan RPMs according to the motor load - thus garanting the declared CFMs at the lowest RPMs possible. Great idea. The downside is that if you have 4" duct the fan WILL run faster and WILL be louder. If you plan to use electric dimmer to slow down the fan, it will NOT work, as the controlled board is smarter than the dimmer idea :-) BTW the models XN50, XN80 and XN110 are exactly the same the only difference is the software loaded into the controller board. PACKAGING Seems there is a flaw in the package design that causes bending the fan flap, so my fan arrived with the flap bended, but was easy to fix. INSTALLATION BEFORE I have been replacing the "builder grade" fan with the 60CFM "upgrade kit" installed that is significantly smaller - even with higher CFMs declared - so before ordering check if you have ENOUGH space in the attic or subfloor, to be safe plan for at least 8" - I had a sewage pipe running above the old one so I had to move the new fan to slightly different place. INSTALL PROCEDURE Enlarging the hole and fixing the bracket is relatively easy - if you are installing the fan into your attic make sure you know what insulation is up there and if possible move it away from the old fan before uninstalling it, else you may end up with a mountain of blow-in insulation on your floor. Connecting the duct and wire was not a huge deal, I have 4" duct and had to use the 6" to 4" reducer, used proper grade of duct tape and also a little bit of duct sealant and zip ties - just to be sure...The unfortunate thing is that the unit does NOT come with the required cable clamp and if the one from your old fan is different or unusable you want to get a new one before your install. The opening for the fan is large enough so I was able to reach inside and also installed sound deadening tape on the gypsum panel from the above, just to be sure no vibration will occur. The grill has very tense and short springs, so it needs a LOT OF PATIENCE. I understand that the grill has to be light, but still at this price point I would expect a design that would dampen the sound of airflow a little. HOW SILENT IT IS? I have 4" duct, the fan will be more silent with 6", if possible upgrade the duct to 6". I don't hear any vibration as before and I don't hear the fan motor. What you will hear is the flow of air. WHY 3 STARS? a) I agree with other reviews - it takes ~5 seconds for the fan to start so it may be confusing for the user b) No cable clamp included c) Flaw in the packaging that bends the flap d) Cheap grille that is tricky to install e) No ability to set the max CFMs/RPMs for the unit at this price point - not two speeds, but limit the max CFM for even more silent operation Great work NuTone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go Nutone Made in USA The XN80 is a great bathroom fan, I was set to buy another panasonic when my installer suggested I try the new Nutone. I was nervous but it worked and I saved money. No noise works well energy efficient.

It has an indoor flap - check the installation manual, there is a clear picture of how it looks and where it's installed.

Can this unit be connected to a 4" duct? other 110 CFM fan call for 4".

Asked by: TLM
For optimum performance 6" duct is recommended on “ULTRA” 110 CFM models and 6" or 4" duct for 80 and 50 CFM (these models have a 6" to 4" reducer included in the carton if needed).

What could be causing the noise that sounds like a card stuck in a bicycle tire, but much louder?

Thank you for any advice you may provide.
Asked by: unhandy woman
Thank you for your question on the model XN80 exhaust fan. The sound you are describing would have to be something hitting the blower wheel when it is running or a loose blower wheel. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 888-336-6151 for assistance.

Can I replace an old QTRN080-A with an XN80?

If so, can I use the same housing or do I need to replace that as well? I notice that the housing dimensions are the same so I'm hoping I can skip the step of removing the old housing. I'm a DIY-er, but I'm pretty handy and retrofitting the fan seems pretty easy. Thanks for your help.
Asked by: Curtis
Thank you for your question. If you want to replace your QTRN080 with the XN80, you will have to replace the entire unit, housing and all. The parts for the XN80 do not fit into the housing of the QTRN080. Please contact Technical Support at 1-888-336-6151 if you need further assistance.
