Rated 1 out of 5 by Very High Fan Failure Rate I've had to replace the fan-motor assembly at least 5 times within 10 years. The duty cycle at my home is low, it is just me and my wife. The squirrel cage fan slides down the motor shaft over time. That is the mode of failure. The fan-motor assembly needs to be re-designed to stop this frequent failure. I keep spare parts it happens so much. I'm off to Home Depot to buy a new fan to get a new fan-motor assembly. I keep 2 in stock at home. Do not install this model. The fan-motor assembly will fail very quickly, and it is a easy, but VERY expensive repair. September 12, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by average fan This is the second unit I have installed. The first only lasted about 3 years - not nearly enough for a $100 + investment. This new unit is about 1 yr old and already beginning to make off motor noises again so I am not hopeful it will last long. The light it gives off is very good but the motor and air movement is less than desired. Noise level, when working properly, is pretty quiet. September 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by works good not made correctly had a noise/vibration took it a part a couple times had to realign the mounting holes, my husband place a screw between the motor cover and the housing and it stopped the vibration, its a good product for the money this is the second one I have had in the past 20 years had my bathroom redone and contractor suggested putting a new one in that was in 2000 replace this one short time ago and it made noise after a short period of time nutone replace motor assm. under warranty September 5, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor Product Poor ventilation properties, very noisy. Had HVAC Contractor look at, said installation was ok, just a poorly designed unit. September 5, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by 8663rp fan the fan 8663rd works very well .I placed this fan on a timer switch and you don't have to worry about forgetting to turn it off ' this 8663rp fan has surpassed our expectations for looks and functionality......thank's for a great product September 5, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Does exactly what I wanted The exhaust fan and light is mounted in existing opening in tile soffit over bath. It does a better job than old unit did, though perhaps a bit noisy. This was expected, however and is not a problem. Clears humidity quickly. September 4, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not the quality and preformance of what they used to be. The construction of the fans housing assemblies, are flimsy, and thin. Which lead to constant vibration. I have also had to replace the fans (made in China) due to noise, and even the replacements are loud. They aren't made to last more then a few years, and I am one to take preventive maintenance by vacuuming, and cleaning the fans at least twice a year. No to mention constantly blowing light bulbs from the amount of vibration from the fan. Changing to a different model, of course requires the ceiling to be re-plastered. September 4, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Attractive design; relatively quiet operation of exhaust fan; decent lighting for our bathroom The only issue I have with this light/fan is the grille assembly. One rarely looks up at the ceiling while taking a shower; one day I did and discovered that the grille was hanging on my only one tab that attaches to to a tension spring. It could have been a disaster if both tabs had given out at the same; it would have caused the glass portion within the grille to break. We discovered that the tab was broken. We can't explain how, because since purchasing and installing, we have not had to change bulbs. And even if we did, the assembly is designed to pull down for easy access to night/bath light. Can you tell me how to remove the motor assembly on my Nutone 8663RP? There's lots of cold air coming in and I'd like to see whether the damper is working properly. Thanks

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 8663RP exhaust fan/light/night light. After removing the grille assembly, you need to remove the reflector assembly. The motor mounting bracket will come out of the unit housing after removing one screw. You can check out the installation instructions on our web site or contact the Technical Service Department at 888-336-6151 for further assistance.

Thank you for your question on the model 8663 exhaust fan/light. There have been numerous versions of the 8663, each with different suffixes after the 8663. Please get the complete model number off of the unit and contact the Technical Service Department at 888-336-6151 for assistance.

What distance is the fan/motor cable of pushing the air? I am redoing the vent from the bathroom through the attic to the outside (just bought the house and mold spores were found/remediated in attic due to improper ventilation). I want to make sure the power of this particular fan is able to carry the air/moisture across the attic and outside with proper ventilation.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 8663RP exhaust fan/light/night light. The 8663RP can handle up to 15 feet of straight, four inch, rigid duct work. You would need to reduce that distance by four feet for every elbow.

Because grill IS sitting flush to wall, it's very difficult to grab on to and does not even feel like it could pull down. Where on the grill, or how do you even pull it down without breaking the grill when gripping or does the glass simply come out? Thank you for your help.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 8664RP exhaust fan/light. The grille is held to the ceiling by two butterfly springs. You should be able to grasp the grille on both sides and pull it straight down approximately two inches. You would then need to reach around the grille and squeeze the springs together to completely remove the grille. Over time, the grille will sometimes stick to the ceiling and you may need to use a small putty knife to loosen it from the ceiling.

Plastic blower wheel scraping against assembly - loud!

    Customer avatar
    by

     on 8663RP
The plastic blower wheel is scraping against assembly - loud!

After inspecting the unit, it appears the blower wheel is either become slightly deformed (the wheel spins like a bicycle wheel that is not trued), or the catch on the hole where the wheel stops on the pivot is defective and the wheel is allowed to get too close to the motor and assembly.

wrapping some tape on the pivot temporarily prevents the wheel from doing this, but I would like to get a replacement part for my unit - but searched everywhere and cannot locate.

    Please assist me in locating?

    Unit is 8663RP "B"

    Thank you
