It's a high volume fan. No it's not the quietest but I don't believe it pretends to be. Mine was making a horrible racket and I expected to have to replace the motor fan assembly. However on removing the assembly for inspection the remains of an acorn fell out. I reassembled and that was the end if the noise.
It's 14 years old and had an acorn rattling around in it for some time . Somehow it survived and is working like new

Bought a new 8663rp nutone bathroom fan with light assembly because old one was really noisy. After installing new fan it's just as noisy as old fan. Why would this keep happening? Is this product just bad old or new?

These were installed in our new home. They lasted 3 years when they started to make noise and within months they stopped working all together.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Pefto This is a very good product.
This product has worked well since it was installed. It has good features and a good appearance. The only reason I did not rate it as excellent is that it is not the easiest item to clean when the grills get full of dust, etc. Otherwise, it is very good overall.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Rickster Clean dust buildup on fan fins
Simply cleaning dust buildup on the fan fins will quiet the fan significantly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Grandstrand4 0 for 3 with this unit
This model came as the standard option when I had my modular come constructed. It is in all 3 of my bathrooms. 2 have completely seized up after a grinding noise began and progressively worsened. The third has started making the grinding noise and now only work intermittently. It is only a matter of time before it seizes up too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by HomeDIYDude Very High Fan Failure Rate
I've had to replace the fan-motor assembly at least 5 times within 10 years. The duty cycle at my home is low, it is just me and my wife. The squirrel cage fan slides down the motor shaft over time. That is the mode of failure. The fan-motor assembly needs to be re-designed to stop this frequent failure. I keep spare parts it happens so much. I'm off to Home Depot to buy a new fan to get a new fan-motor assembly. I keep 2 in stock at home. Do not install this model. The fan-motor assembly will fail very quickly, and it is a easy, but VERY expensive repair.
